I am a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Degrees and Education
My qualifications are:
I have over 20 years of experience working with adults with a range of psychological difficulties including depression, anxiety related problems such as obsessive compulsive disorder, panic, stress, health anxiety, worry and phobias, perfectionism, relationship problems and low self esteem. I have worked mostly within the NHS and for the last 10 years have specialised in working with adults with eating disorders. I recently left the Adult Eating Disorder Team at the Maudsley Hospital, London in order to re-locate to Edinburgh and previous to this worked at the specialist Eating Disorder Service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Within my private practice I see adults with a range of psychological difficulties including depression, different forms of anxiety, low self esteem, perfectionism, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder.
In both London and Cambridge, I worked with clients from many different countries and also with young adults especially as I was taking part in a trial for intervening quickly with people aged 18-25 who had been recently diagnosed with an eating disorder.
My Therapeutic Approach
In my clinical practice I draw on a number of evidence based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy. The foundation of all my work is to create a trusting and safe working relationship so that the individual can open up and begin the challenging work of self reflection and ultimately bring about positive change in their lives. At the heart of all the therapeutic approaches I employ is the need to develop an individualised formulation (understanding) of the client’s difficulties and to tailor interventions to best fit the person.
