Clinical Practice

Since qualifying in 2012 I have worked with adults with a broad range of presentations including anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma and relational difficulties. In my current role in the NHS I work with adults with intellectual disabilities. This includes individuals with neuro-developmental disorders such as Autism and ADHD. My work involves detailed diagnostic assessment, consultation and systemic work as well as direct therapy. Therapeutic work in this area can be challenging as the clients present with a wide range of complex difficulties, which routinely require an individually adapted approach. My experience allows me to take a holistic, person-centred approach, creatively tailoring my input to the individual.

My Therapeutic Approach

Key to any psychological work is feeling comfortable and safe in therapy. I believe that a collaborative, trusting relationship is important for creating a shared understanding of psychological distress and promoting positive outcomes.

In clinical practice my approach can best be described as eclectic; I draw on a number of evidence-based models, but primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also have a particular interest in Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and a number of relational models. I am qualified in delivering Behavioural Family Therapy as well as training clinicians in this approach.

It is important that the model meets the needs of the individual and I am committed to exploring what works best with each person.
