Clinical Practice

I am based at The Edinburgh Practice full time, as well as working therapeutically with clients I am also the Clinical Lead, this involves overseeing all aspects of clinical care across our diverse range of services.

I have over 12 years experience of working psychologically with clients across both the NHS and the private sector. My experience has included working with people across the lifespan, with a wide range of difficulties in a variety of settings including; outpatient and inpatient services, and forensic services. I have gained experience of service design and development, as well as delivering training and supervision to colleagues.

At The Edinburgh Practice I see adults and older adults with a wide range of difficulties, including but not limited to; anxiety, depression, emotional difficulties, grief, stress, low self-esteem, adjustment, difficulties with relationships, complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and eating disorders. I enjoy working with students who are experiencing psychological difficulties and support them to adjust to the demands of University life, as well as coping with psychological distress. I have developed expertise and a special interest in working with elite athletes who are experiencing psychological difficulties which may be interlinked with sports performance.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic work is underpinned by two important pillars: the therapeutic relationship and evidence-based psychological therapies. Both my clinical experience and research studies suggest that forming a therapeutic relationship that is open, non-judgemental, trusting and empathetic is one of the key active ingredients for effective psychological therapy. I work together with clients to develop a shared understanding of current difficulties, identify factors which may have contributed towards these, as well as factors which may keep these difficulties going. My therapeutic work is informed by evidence-based therapies including; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy.
