I am a Clinical Psychologist with more than eight years of experience working clinically and in a research capacity with adults and young people living with various mental health difficulties. I have completed training to doctoral level, working with individuals across the lifespan struggling predominantly with anxiety and depression, resulting from often early adverse experiences. Anxiety difficulties can range from OCD to social anxiety and depression often from engaging in unhelpful thinking patterns or due to relational difficulties. My research experience has aided my understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of such difficulties and the evidence-based practice which best facilitates recovery from these.
In addition to private practice, I currently work part time within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Lothian. Within this service, I work with young people and families, providing individual therapeutic work in addition to neuropsychological assessment for Intellectual Disability (ID) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presentations. I also facilitate consultation and assessment for Care Experienced Young People (CEYP), presenting with difficulties often due to early trauma, impacting emotional development and understanding.
The main model I use in my clinical practice is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also trained in working systemically and I am currently working towards accreditation within the model of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). In addition to these, I frequently incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) into my work when appropriate.
Whilst working within psychological models are important, I believe that building a therapeutic relationship with each client is key in facilitating change and recovery from a range of mental health difficulties.
