Clinical Practice

I am a clinical psychologist providing psychological therapy for adults experiencing a range of emotional difficulties. I have worked with clients of varying ages across the lifespan in several different mental health settings including community, inpatient, and high-secure forensic settings. This has allowed me to gain a wealth of experience of working with people who have common mental health problems including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, phobias, trauma and PTSD, low self-esteem, difficulties managing emotions (sometimes called emotional dysregulation), grief and anger. As well as this, I have specific interests in working with people who experience OCD and panic disorder to help alleviate the symptoms associated with these difficulties.

Alongside working in private practice, I also work as a clinical psychologist within an adult secondary care psychology service in the NHS and work, predominately, with people who have had complex trauma experiences within their childhood and/or in later adult life.

My Therapeutic Approach

In my clinical practice, I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as my main approach, but I will also draw on a range of other evidence-based cognitive and behavioral psychotherapies (including, for example, compassion-focused therapy) as required to meet your specific needs. Within psychological therapy, I believe it is important for you to be able to develop a safe, confidential and supportive therapeutic relationship with your psychologist as this provides the foundation to explore and understand your difficulties. Then, based on a shared understanding of the current problems, we will draw upon various therapeutic techniques and approaches to support you to make changes which will lead to improved psychological functioning and reduced distress. Given that each person is different, I aim to work flexibly in my approach with each client to ensure therapy meets their specific needs.
