Combined ASD/ADHD Assessments (5-17 years old)

Combined ASD/ADHD Assessments (5-17 years old)

We are delighted that we are now able to offer a comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment which includes both assessment for ADHD and ASD by our skilled multi-disciplinary team. The comprehensive assessment involves input from Psychiatry, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology. We are able to offer this comprehensive assessment for children and young people.

The Assessment Process

Stage 1: Initial Consultation

An initial consultation will be with our Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist or Specialty Doctor. This will include gathering clinical information from parents and observing the young person within the clinic setting. You will discuss current difficulties that your child or teenager is experiencing both at home and in school and investigate any co-existing conditions that may be present. At the end of this appointment, you will be provided with the SNAP-IV comprehensive behaviour rating scales. These scales are completed by parents and a teacher at your child’s school.

Stage 2: In-depth Assessment

Our comprehensive and multidimensional assessment involves assessment across a range of areas including impact on school, home and social functioning.

ADI-R parents only appointment

As parents/guardians, you will meet with one member of our team to complete the ADI-R.  This is a standardised interview which includes in-depth questioning relating to your child’s early years and developmental history and has been proven to be highly useful for diagnosing and supporting individuals with ASD. It is a gold standard assessment tool and is recommended in current national guidelines.

ADOS-2 child only appointment

Your child will attend the practice to complete the ADOS-2 assessment for ASD. This is a semi structured, standardised assessment which is designed to identify behaviours that are typically related to a diagnosis of ASD. This is a gold standard instrument recommended in current national guidelines. This play-based observational assessment involves your child playing with specific toys and undertaking various tasks with a member of the team whilst their interaction is being observed by another team member.

Stage 3: Feedback appointment

Following the completion of the assessment process, the team meet to pull all the information together and discuss the young person’s assessment. The information is mapped onto the DSM-5 criteria for ASD and ADHD and a decision is reached regarding diagnosis.  If all information is available, the team would hope to feedback to you within 2 weeks of the clinic assessment. You and your child will meet with our psychiatrist or specialty doctor to discuss the outcome of the assessment. Recommendations will also be made for treatment and interventions where appropriate.

Following completion of the assessment a written diagnostic report will be completed. We will aim to have this report finalised within 6 – 8 weeks after completion of our assessment.

⭐️We were delighted to receive one exceptional and two good grades from our HIS inspection at the start of the year.
⭐️Three amazing promotions within the administration team that have led to our two amazing coordinators and a medical secretary!

🌈 Happy #PrideMonth from Team TEP!
🏳️‍🌈 Pride month is not only a vibrant and inclusive celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community but a time to acknowledge the challenges faced by this community, to educate ourselves and others and to stand in solidarity with the fight for equality and acceptance.
💛As a proud ally, we send our support to this community this month, and every other month.

💛 We are starting the week off on a positive note with some fantastic client feedback! At TEP, the wellbeing and experience of our clients is our top priority! We are dedicated to creating a compassionate, safe and professional environment for our clients.
🙏 We are grateful to this client for sharing their experience with us, thank you!
This #FeelGoodFriday we have Dr Anu Shekhar, one of our Clinical Psychologists at TEP, back with another interesting topic for us ‘The Use of Metaphors in Therapy’!

🤔What is a metaphor?

A metaphor is an expression that describes a person or object referring to something that is considered to have similar characteristics to that person or object.

💛How can they be helpful in managing your own emotions?

Metaphors are powerful tools and can help you gain insight, reframe your perspectives and access a deeper level of understanding. This can be helpful when journalling or speaking to someone you trust.

We would love to hear about your favourite metaphor! Feel free to leave a comment below ⬇️

⭐️ This week is Dementia Awareness Week! Each year, Dementia Awareness Week (DAW) is held with the aim of raising awareness of dementia and to help improve the lives of people with dementia, their families and their carers.
📣 The theme this year is: Your voice. Your choice. Your future.
⭐️ Each person living with dementia has their own unique story, and their needs, preferences and aspirations are as diverse as they are! Good care looks different for everyone, and the best care is specifically tailored to the individual - your voice, your choice and your future.
⭐️ If you are worried that you or a loved one may have dementia, speak to your GP or reach out to us via a self-referral to our Memory Clinic via our website (link in bio).
⭐️ Seeking assessment and support quickly can lead to an earlier diagnosis which gives you more time to plan for the future and access support and services that can help. Your voice. Your choice. Your future.
⭐️ If you are in TEP this week please do pick up one of Alzheimer Scotland’s leaflets in our reception area!
