Pledging our support to embedding trauma informed principles
We are delighted to announce that The Edinburgh Practice has joined approximately 70 organisations across Scotland in signing the Leadership Pledge of Support, committing to implementing trauma-informed practices across the workforce.
At The Edinburgh Practice, we pride ourselves in providing a secure, welcoming, and professional space. With our diverse and dedicated multidisciplinary team, we offer comprehensive assessment and support for children, young people, adults, older adults, and families, all under one roof.
As a mental health practice, we recognise the widespread prevalence of trauma and understand the enduring physical and psychological effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), as well as other forms of trauma which contribute to the challenges individuals face. We are also aware of the potential for individuals to be unintentionally re-traumatised by triggering situations. Here at TEP, we are mindful of potential triggers and their potential impact, therefore we strive to create environments that prioritise safety and sensitivity, by embedding trauma informed principles into all that we do.
Every member of our team is trained in trauma-informed care, and many of our healthcare professionals are specifically trained in evidence-based psychological therapies for trauma. We provide trauma therapy services such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) and phase-based trauma therapy including safety and stabilisation and trauma-focused CBT.
Signatories to this pledge agree to:
- Work with others to put trauma-informed and responsive practice in place across our workforce and services.
- Deliver services that wherever possible are actively informed by people with lived experience of trauma.
- Recognise the central importance of relationships that offer collaboration, choice, empowerment, safety and trust as part of a trauma-informed approach.
- Respond in ways that prevent further harm, and that reduce barriers so that people affected by trauma have equal access to the services they need, when they need it, to support their own journey of recovery.
At The Edinburgh Practice, we are committed to fostering healing, growth, and empowerment for all our clients. Our dedication to trauma-informed care ensures that every individual who walks through our doors receives the compassionate support and guidance they deserve.
