Combined Autism & ADHD Assessments (5-17 years old)

Combined Autism & ADHD Assessments (5-17 years old)

We are delighted to offer a combined Autism and ADHD assessment; a comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment for ADHD and Autism by our skilled multi-disciplinary team. The comprehensive assessment involves input from Psychiatry, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology. We are able to offer this comprehensive assessment for children and young people aged 5-17 years. Read more about our clinical team

The Assessment Process

Stage 1: Initial Consultation

An initial consultation will be with our Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist or Specialty Doctor. This will include gathering clinical information from parents and observing the young person within the clinic setting. You will discuss current difficulties that your child or teenager is experiencing both at home and in school and investigate any co-existing conditions that may be present. At the end of this appointment, you will be provided with the SNAP-IV comprehensive behaviour rating scales. These scales are completed by parents and a teacher at your child’s school.

Stage 2: In-depth Assessment

Our comprehensive and multidimensional assessment involves assessment across a range of areas including impact on school, home and social functioning.

ADI-R parents only appointment

As parents/guardians, you will meet with one member of our team to complete the ADI-R.  This is a standardised interview which includes in-depth questioning relating to your child’s early years and developmental history and has been proven to be highly useful for diagnosing and supporting individuals with Autism. It is a gold standard assessment tool and is recommended in current national guidelines.

ADOS-2 child only appointment

Your child will attend the practice to complete the ADOS-2 assessment for Autism. This is a semi structured, standardised assessment which is designed to identify behaviours that are typically related to a diagnosis of Autism. This is a gold standard instrument recommended in current national guidelines. This play-based observational assessment involves your child playing with specific toys and undertaking various tasks with a member of the team whilst their interaction is being observed by another team member.

Stage 3: Feedback appointment

Following the completion of the assessment process, the team meet to pull all the information together and discuss the young person’s assessment. The information is mapped onto the DSM-5 criteria for Autism and ADHD and a decision is reached regarding diagnosis.  If all information is available, the team would hope to feedback to you within 6 – 8 weeks of the clinic assessment. You and your child will meet with our psychiatrist or specialty doctor to discuss the outcome of the assessment. Recommendations will also be made for treatment and interventions where appropriate.

Following completion of the assessment a written diagnostic report will be completed. We will aim to have this report finalised within 6 – 8 weeks after completion of our assessment.

Please note that if further appointments are required out with the full assessment that there will be additional charges for these appointments.

We do at times have a waiting list for our assessments and as such require a £200 deposit to secure a place on the waiting list.  The £200 is non-refundable and will be deducted from the assessment cost once the assessment is booked.

❤️ We’re supporting Time to Talk Day! Talking about what is going on in our lives and feeling heard is crucial for wellbeing. Today is about everyone getting together to talk and listen.

🗣️Talking about mental health doesn’t need to be awkward. Everyone struggles with their mental health from time to time.

👂You don’t need to have all the answers to be a good listener. Sometimes a friendly ear and space to share is all someone needs.

🫶Open up, talk, and listen.

🌼 We’re supporting #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek with @_Place2Be! This year’s theme is ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’, encouraging self-discovery and growth.

💛 This week is all about helping young people speak up and feel empowered to talk about mental health. It is about how we can build our resilience by understanding ourselves and recognising our emotions. By understanding who we are, we can find out what makes us feel happy, sad, anxious, or scared - or even all of them at once!

Happy Friday, everyone! 🌟 This #fridaycheckin, we’re focusing on checking in with our sensory needs.

Did you know we have 5 main senses:
👁️ Sight
👃 Smell
👅 Taste
👋 Touch
👂Hearing
Plus two additional senses:
🧍‍♂️ Proprioception (body awareness)
⚖️ Vestibular (balance and movement)

Sensory needs can vary, we can be:
* Hypersensitive: Easily overwhelmed for example by bright lights, loud noises, or strong smells
* Hyposensitive: May seek extra stimulation for example from strong flavours or textures

Tuning into and meeting our sensory needs helps to soothe the nervous system, promotes wellbeing and reduces distress 🌈
