Clinical Practice
Dr Carrie McCrea is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant who has extensive experience of working with high performance and professional sport.
She provides Scottish based clinical leadership across several Olympic and Commonwealth sports, along with clinical support to athletes from the wider high-performance system. She works daily as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside experts in their respective fields, combining evidence-based practice with innovation to deliver integrated athlete care. As Clinical Lead for Mental Health, she also collaborates with UK and international colleagues to advance mental health support strategies for performance athletes.
Dr Carrie has played a leading role in adapting and developing evidence-based approaches for Scottish performance athletes, drawing on best practice guidance to address key areas such as respiratory health, mental health, prolonged fatigue, and concussion rehabilitation within high-performance sport.
She has worked extensively with Team Scotland and Team Great Britain across a range of Major Games and most recently at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she held the roles of SEM doctor and Mental Health Lead.
Her current roles also include providing performance medical support in elite motorsport, including Formula One.
Clinical Approach
Beyond elite sport, Dr Carrie translates these evidence-based approaches to support active individuals, recreational athletes, and those recovering from musculoskeletal conditions. By integrating principles from high-performance environments, she helps individuals of all levels achieve their physical goals, whether returning to sport, maintaining long-term fitness, or enhancing daily function.
Passionate about bridging the gap between high performance sports medicine and general health, Dr. Carrie works across multidisciplinary teams to deliver personalised, performance-driven care that benefits athletes and non-athletes alike.
