Clinical Practice

With over 22 years of clinical practice, I originally trained with Relate UK, later qualifying in psychotherapy and have since worked with individuals and couples in the UK and abroad.

A few years ago, life led me to re-train in fertility work with which I integrate a relational focus. Within my work with clients, I consider not only the impact of the person considering or directly receiving the treatment, but equally on their partner and sometimes the family.  Working with solo mums we consider the external relational focus outside the mother/child dyad.

Fertility treatment is one of the greatest challenges anyone can experience. Gaining valuable experience as a counsellor in an NHS licensed fertility clinic, I now continue as a fertility counsellor specifically with The Edinburgh Practice. My support is only therapeutic; I cannot offer clinical advice but am knowledgeable of the varying procedures, treatments & HFEA guidelines.

As a professional member of the Donor Conception Network, I am particularly interested in and work closely with those in need of a donor to create their family.  This area also supports those wishing to give the gift of donation.

Clinical Approach

Every person is unique; therefore, I seek to create an approach specific for each client/couple within their social context.  In doing so I adopt an integrative approach which has evolved from psychodynamic and systemic roots. My work is underpinned with the principles of mindfulness and compassion focused therapy.

As humans we live within social systems; the complexities can sometimes be overwhelming. Relationships are at the core and at times can be tested, particularly in the context of fertility. Over the years, I have worked with clients from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds, and I learn from every person I meet in the therapy room. Whatever our background, it is the commonality and complexity of being human that is constantly fascinating and the focus of my work.

It is a privilege to work with people who allow me into their lives when most vulnerable. Whether working with an individual or couple, my aim is to offer a space with respect and kindness. Together we explore the concerns brought to therapy and seek answers to change, enhance emotional wellbeing and strengthen & maintain emotional resilience.
