Dr Nadeem is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatry, UK and is registered with the General Medical Council (4677754). He is recognised by Lothian Health Board under Section 22 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Scotland Act 2003 as being experienced in the diagnosis or treatment of mental disorder.

Training and Work experience

Dr Nadeem trained in Psychiatry at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and obtained the membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, London, UK, and CCT from GMC, UK. Dr Nadeem worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, Scotland for 3 years. He then worked in a similar position at Carseview Mental Health Centre, Dundee for a year. He has wide experience in dealing with psychiatric and mental health issues. He carried out original research in the field of Schizophrenia, and worked as Honorary Lecturer in Clinical Psychiatry at the Division of Psychiatry, University of Edinburgh. He chaired the Mental Health Informatics Special Interest Group of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for three years. He has given lectures and conducted workshops in UK, India and Kuwait on various psychiatric topics and has several publications to his credit. Dr Nadeem returned to Hyderabad in 2010 and established the Oxygen Institute of Psychiatry, which carved out a name for itself in provision of quality psychiatric and drug rehabilitation services within a short span of 18 months. This centre was recently re-branded as Radiant Hospital. He holds the cause of psycho-education (especially in the area of Drug and Alcohol addiction) close to his heart, and gives informational and educational lectures at various schools, colleges, Business Schools and IT and Govt. organisations. He contributes to various newspapers and has appeared on TV health shows. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London, recognising his services to the field of Psychiatry in India and UK. Dr Nadeem then worked in Mercy University Hospital, Cork, Republic of Ireland, before returning to take up NHS work once again at St. John’s Hospital, Livingston, Scotland, where he is currently working.

Clinical Practice

Dr Nadeem has over 18 years of experience working with adults who have been struggling with a wide range of difficulties in inpatient, outpatient and community settings, in Acute Psychiatry, Rehabilitation Psychiatry and Psychiatry of Addictions. These include but are not limited to: Schizophrenia and other major psychotic disorders, Bipolar Affective Disorders, Major Depressive Disorders, Anxiety, Panic and Phobic Disorders and OCD. He is also has expertise in diagnosing and managing Adult Neurodevelopmental Disorders, including ADHD and Autism. Dr Nadeem has a special interest in severe and enduring mental illnesses, psychopharmacology and development and dissemination of knowledge based on the current best evidence based medicine. His special interests include the use of modern technology for effective psychiatric healthcare delivery, including telepsychiatry.

Therapeutic Approach

In his clinical practice Dr Nadeem likes to draw on the current best evidence based medicine practices and synthesise it with the Recovery model. Overall, his approach is more holistic based on a Bio-Psycho-Social model that focuses to draw less on the illness but more on the wellness and recovery model. He can speak English, Hindi, Telugu and Urdu and has some basic knowledge of Arabic language.
