Inspiring Conference Promoting Mental Health In Sport
Thank you to the organisers and all participants of the PROMISE25 conference for such an inspiring weekend collaborating on the protection of mental health in sports and exercise. Over 150 delegates attended the two day conference which included a variety of lectures on various mental health and wellbeing in sport topics.
Founder and Clinical Director, Dr Fiona Wilson, and Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant, Dr Carrie McCrea were delighted to speak at the conference.
Dr Wilson discussed the effective management of ADHD in athletes. Dr McCrea presented on screening and surveillance strategies for optimal athlete wellbeing.
Dr Wilson also presented at the welcome reception as the practice was the main sponsor for the event. She commented:
“It has been an honour to sponsor and present at the PROMISE conference. The conversation around mental health in sport has historically lagged behind physical health. Too often, the mental side of an athlete’s wellbeing is treated as secondary, as something to be addressed only when problems become insurmountable. But mental health is just as critical as physical health in optimising performance and ensuring the longevity of an athlete’s career. But it’s not just about improving performance; it’s about enabling them to sustain fulfilling careers, transition successfully into life after sport, and maintain their overall wellbeing”.
We were also delighted to host a meeting at the practice with a group of delegates from The International Society for Sports Psychiatry.
