Training and Clinical Experience
Dr Donnelly completed her Psychiatric Training in London, and her higher Psychiatric training in Suffolk.
Dr Donnelly has a broad experience of working in various sub specialties of Psychiatry throughout the UK and has enjoyed working with children, adults of working age and older adults throughout her training. She has special interests in Addiction Psychiatry, Early Intervention in Psychosis and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
Dr Donnelly has worked as a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry in Edinburgh since 2013. She has worked in various inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr Donnelly is comfortable supporting people through more acute illness, as well as through every stage of their recovery journey.
Dr Donnelly retains a particular interest in Neurodevelopmental Conditions and has set up and ran a specialist clinic diagnosing and managing ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Disorders in Edinburgh. She remains passionate about improving access to specialist care for this patient group.
Dr Donnelly is experienced in managing a broad range of mental health conditions including mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety disorders, OCD and difficulties arising from a lived experience of trauma.
Therapeutic Approach
Dr Donnelly likes to keep her patients at the centre of all treatment decisions. She views her primary role within the therapeutic relationship as providing her patients with the information and understanding that they need to be empowered to make decisions about their care that are right for their individual needs.
Dr Donnelly is interested in getting to know her patients as people, and understanding their mental health challenges in the context of their life stage as well as their social, family and occupational circumstances. She believes this is key to providing effective and individually tailored care.
